His specialty is the history of the English language and medieval nobility. His teacher and supervisor was the famous British Marxist historian Rodney Hilton. For a long time, Peter Koss was a member of the Council of the Royal Historical Society. From 1973 to 1995, he worked as a lecturer at the University of Northumbria (Newcastle). From 1995 to 2000, he was head of the school of history and archaeology at Cardiff University (Wales). Peter Koss is currently a Professor in the school of history, archaeology and religion at Cardiff University, and a member of the editorial Board of the historical journal Past and present. He is the author of the books: \u201cNoble Chivalry and its place in English society in the period from 1180 to 1280\u201d (1991), \u201cKnight in Medieval England\u201d (1993) and \u201cLady in Medieval England\u201d (1998). In his fundamental scientific work \u201cThe Origin of the English gentry\u201d, first published in 2003, Peter Koss gave a complete picture of when and how the formation of the modern elite of England took place and what its origins were.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Koss published his first research on the formation of the English political elite in the essay \u201cThe Origin of the English branches of the nobility\u201d, published in the series: \u201cPast and present publications\u201d in No. 147 \u2013 (May-1995), which continued the previous theme of his research on the origin of the English nobility. In this essay, he criticized all existing concepts about the origin and use of the term \u201cnobility\u201d, and proposed a six-point definition. In it, he also argued with his opponents, offering his concept, which was that the nobility was formed \u201cin an accelerated manner\u201d during the period: from the mid-13th century to the mid-14th century.
