Abstract: the article presents the results of the analysis of the historical development of cadastral works in the world. The long and complex process of transformation of the cadastre in different countries at different stages of development of technical capabilities is associated with the need for taxation. In this regard, the inventory has historically been associated with evaluation work, which in modern conditions of Western European countries have common principles and directions of development. The cadastre itself has become not just fiscal, but multi-purpose, so the use of cadastral information today is quite diverse.
